Boxing Day Celebrations
The customary celebrations took place on the Bridge on Boxing Day

The Boxing Day celebrations which commenced at around 3pm, drew a large turnout from the public on Wednesday 26 December. Many people sat on benches on the bridge waiting for the customary races to start.

Colin Peters provided music for the onlookers as well as announcing upcoming races.  A number of children took part in the races, which included egg and spoon, the three legged race, sack race, skipping race and tug of war. Some of the adults also joined in the fun, and participated in the novelty events.

A large crowd of adults took part in the men versus women tug of war, which saw the women beat the men twice. Cheers and shouts arose from the spectators. Coco Tingler and Carla Stevens who are here on holiday until January, were part of the ladies winning team. Coco found the competition “very interesting!” Carla commented, “My arms are sore”. Both enjoyed the events “very much”.
