Christmas Eve 2012 on St Helena

Damien O'Bey, SHBC

Christmas cheer arrived in bundles on Monday 24th December.  A crowd of around 80 plus people gathered at the General Hospital at the top of Jamestown, ready to make their way through town.  Approximately 10 vehicles, who took part in a trail blaze through the island earlier in the day also joined the procession.  A sea of red, green, white and other Christmassy colours danced through the streets led by a traditional Christmas string band.  After stopping for customary drinks and snacks at June and Terry Richards house in Barracks Square the procession danced their way to the wharf.

Hundreds of people gathered on 'The Bridge' and roundabout area's to spectate upon the colourful procession, giving generously as the dancers sought donations to help fund the children's sports that are traditionally held on 'The Bridge' on boxing day.
