St Helena Tony Earnshaw

SHG Press Release

SHG has this week appointed Tony Earnshaw to be its first Director of Physical Environment. This new position has been established to bring together a wide range of existing Government functions as part of the ongoing Restructuring and Modernisation programme.

Currently, roles concerned with the management, conservation and regulation of the natural and man-made environment are spread across four separate Government Directorates. The Physical Environment Directorate brings these together and allows for a properly co-ordinated and joined-up approach.

The brief is a comprehensive one, including environmental management and regulation, land use planning and building control, land and buildings, transport infrastructure, agriculture and natural resources, plus the Government’s Capital Programme.

Tony will already be familiar to some people - as he was previously the Lands Executive. He is well equipped to take on the challenge. He has wide ranging physical environment experience across both the public and private sectors, ranging over 25 years, most of it gained in the UK. This has included developing and managing Country Parks and natural habitats, derelict land reclamation, and land use planning and co-ordination of one of the largest housing redevelopment and infrastructure programmes in the UK. His experience also includes four years at the Audit Commission advising the UK Government on the efficient and effective management of the Housing Market Renewal Programme.
