SHAPE held a family fun day on Sunday 15 November at Pub Paradise, Longwood.  Although the weather was quite wet and cold, roughly 150-200 people attended, browsing the various stalls on display.

Novelty games kept the kids busy with many winning treats and sweets at the Lucky Dip and Tombola stalls. A variety of toys, clothing, shoes and plants were on sale at discounted prices. Kerry Stevens sold bags, cards, calendars, and notebooks. Julie George was at the SHAPE stall selling attractive handmade flax flowers and baskets, a skill recently brought to the island by Veranoa Hetet. Also on sale were candles, soaps and creative Christmas gift ideas.

Tara Pelembe and her son Nandeli attracted many people to their stall, where a variety of food items could be won for 50p a turn. Raffle and bingo tickets were sold throughout the day. Sharon George was at the book stall selling a variety of books for just 20p. Helen Joshua drew many children to her stall with artistic face paintings.  Curry and rice, savouries and confectionaries were on sale to entice the hungry. Throughout the day Colin Peters provided a selection of Christmas tunes and hosted a Karaoke session later in the day. Another activity that kept the youngsters engaged was a scavenger trial hunt where they had to find clues to get to the prize.

The fun day raised £956.70 for SHAPE. Martin Joshua, SHAPE Manager said, “Despite the weather it was a very successful day which showed there is a lot of support for SHAPE out there.”
