The 2012/13 cricket season continued with week 2's fixtures on Saturday 10th November, in dry yet overcast conditions on Francis Plain.

In the morning fixture, defending league champions Levelwood All Starz avenged their knockout final loss to HTH Dolphins with a 232 run victory over the current Knockout Champs, who were without the services of batting star Schalk Van Eck.  With All Starz batting first Ross Henry recorded the season's first competitive century, striking 6 sixes on his way to 135, and a team total of 309.  Tris Moyce was Dolphins best bowler, returning figures of 2/49.  In reply Dolphins could only muster 77 runs, as Sanjay Clingham tore through their batting line up to end with impressive figures of 4/3.  Ross Henry's batting display earned him man of the match honours.

Levelwood Rebels made their first ever appearance against seasoned campaigners Jamestown Zodiacs in Saturdays second fixture.  Having won the toss, the boys from Levelwood opted to bat, and got off to the worst possible start when they lost opener Delroy Leo for a duck of only the second ball of the match.  Wickets continued to fall as Rebels stumbled to a total of 66.  Brendon Leo top scored with 25 and Tyrel Ellick took 3/23.  Zodiacs began their run chase steadily and despite a brief scare when Jamie Essex retired injured and Captain Dax Richards lost his wicket the very next over, Zodiacs scratched off the score with ease.  Anders Bowers top scored with 33, and Ralph Knipe took Rebels only wicket.  Anders Bowers' all round performance with bat and ball saw him named man of the match.

I saw the weekends cricketing action and spoke to Zodiacs young stars Jamie Essex and Tyrel Ellick.  To read what they had to say, see the full match report of Jamestown Zodiacs V Levelwood Rebels which will feature in this week's Sentinel in Sports Arena.
