Golf Report Weekending 4th November 2012
The RMS St Helena Annual Golf Centenary Cup was played over 36 holes on Saturday/Sunday with 28 players taking part. This was a stroke play competition with players having their full handicap; therefore it was the lowest net scores that counted.
On day one Peter Bagley who plays off a 4 handicap and Raymond Henry playing of 12 had a joint score of 69 and lead the field for the gents, closely followed by Leon Crowie with 72 and Brian Coleman on 73. Freda Green lead the field for the ladies on 74, with Eileen Wallace on 75 and Helena Stevens on 78. Only two players holed out in 2 to share the two ball pool they were Peter Bagley and Shotty Green each winning 14 balls.
Peter Bagley was able to maintain his form through to Sunday’s final 18 holes and took the top spot by returning a net 70 making his total score for the 2 rounds 139. In second place and playing of a handicap of 13 was Patrick Henry on 146, Pat had 76 in his first round and 70 on Sunday.
In first place for the ladies was Helena Stevens who improved her performance by 10 shots from the previous round and return a net par round of 68 making her total score 146. In second place for the ladies was Freda Green on 150 followed in third place by Eileen Wallace on 159.
Eight players holed out in 2 on Sunday’s final round to share the two ball pool of 4 balls each they were Leon Crowie, Tony Green, Roy Reynolds, Patrick Henry, Deon-De-Jager, Lawson Henry, Joan Thomas and Paddo Johnson.
The prizes which were kindly donated by RMS were presented by Miss Jackie Leo the Director of Hotel Services from the RMS,this was followed by Tea and eats. The Golf Club would like to thank the RMS for once again sponsoring this competition.
No Competitions are schedule for this coming weekend, however signup sheets are posted on the Club noticeboard for competitions to be played on 17th& 18th November which will be a Turkey and Ham (Stableford format) and the monthly Medal sponsored by Basil Read.
