SHG wax seal applied to By Election voting documents in October 2012

In a St Helena Government (SHG) press release, published on Tuesday, 30 October, results of Augusts' election survey were declared. The voting age will remain at 18 after 50.4% of forms completed revealed the public wished to see things remain the same. However, 76.8% of participants favoured a single constituency.

According to information provided by SHG's press office, the election survey saw a print run of 2,000 copies, distributed through local newspapers and retail outlets island wide. Only 6.15% of surveys were completed reflecting the low voting turnout in the by elections held this year. The press release stated, "despite the relatively low number of completed questionnaires (123), Council has decided to take forward the idea…" Work to amend the 'Election Ordinance 2009' is currently underway and will be submitted to formal LegCo in January 2013.
