Nearly 5 months since the opening game, the 2012 St Helena football league came to an end on Saturday 29 September with Rovers retaining their title, finishing with 37 points from a possible 42, having scored 39 goals and conceded only 7. It was always going to be hard for Rovers to lift themselves for this match, with the title virtually in the bag at kick off. The only way they could have been overtaken was to lose to Wirebirds by 5 clear goals (which would have allowed Harts in).

Striker Ross O’Dean scored both goals in Saturday’s 2-1 victory against Wirebirds, in what was a comfortable win, despite a spirited performance by Wirebirds.

Rovers were efficient without having to ever get up to full power. A slightly depleted team without subs took to the field, but with such good players throughout the team they coped easily. Mark Beard had another good game on Rovers’ right flank; his pin point cross in the 32nd minute presented O’Dean with his first on a plate from 2 yards.

Three minutes later it was 2-0 Rovers. Phillip Stroud from the left side this time, crossed for O’Dean to bundle in his second.

Wirebirds managed to pull one back on 45 mins through their star forward, Jamie Thomas, after good work by Mario Williams who beat 3 players in the build up.

There were no further goals in the second half and it ended 2-1 to Rovers.

Harts finished as runners up.
