Defending Champions Rovers cruised to a comfortable 3-0 win over Crystal Rangers in Sunday’s opening fixture.
Mark Beard opened the scoring on 29 minutes. Making a well-timed run into Rangers Penalty area he unleashed a venomous shot that found the roof of Rangers goal.
In between extending their lead, Rovers midfield general Andrew Yon, attacking a cross from the left, threw up a hand attempting to turn the ball goal wards. He was promptly yellow carded by referee Declan Clifford.
On 27 minutes Mark Beard turned from goal scorer to provider. Rico Benjamin rose above the Rangers defence to powerfully head home an inch perfect Mark Beard cross. For the remainder of the half, Rovers’attackers maintained the pressure on the Rangers goal, backed by their solid defensive line.
The Second half started in similar fashion to the first. Brian Sim, Luke Johnson, Shane Clifford and Peter Benjamin, have developed a great partnership in Rovers defence, along with Keeper Alan Benjamin they have only conceded 1 goal in 5 games.
Rovers added a 3rd goal midway through the 2nd half. Gary Benjamin ended a Clayton Benjamin run with a late tackle in the penalty area. Picking himself from the floor Clayton converted the spot kick.
After this win Rovers now top the league table with fifteen points plus two games in hand, postponed from earlier in the round.
