Earl Henry elected to Legislative Council

Earl Hilton Henry of Thompsons Hill has become the newest member of St Helena's Legislative Council, after successfully contesting a by election, emerging victorious on Wednesday 13 June 2012.

Polling stations had opened at 10am that day and closed at 7pm. The ballot papers were then brought under police escort to the Castle in Jamestown where they were counted before the Returning Officer, Gillian Francis. The 3 candidates were also present, Eric George, Lionel Williams and Earl Henry.

As the 265 votes were being counted it soon became clear that Henry was heading for victory. The final count ended:

George: 70
Henry: 155
Williams: 40

Henry now fills the vacancy left by the resignation from council in March of Michael Benjamin.
