Islanders gathered on the sea front in Jamestown on 21 May to celebrate St Helena Day, 510 years after the island was discovered.
The day began with a uniformed parade and service that was well attended before the days celebrations were officially declared open by Governor Mark Capes, Derek Richards and the newly crowned Miss St Helena, Leoni Ellick.
Entertainment for the day included departmental novelty sports (teams from Basil Read, Police, New Horizons and Scouts), bingo, cartoons for children, a bouncy castle and boat rides. Nandeli Pelembe came in first for the mini-marathon. Adele Thomas and Ashley Thomas were winners in the Little Miss Gala.
There was a float parade in the afternoon, starting at the hospital and finishing in front of the customs building. A float with all of the Miss St Helena contestants from Saturday's contest led the parade.
In the evening at 7pm there was a fireworks display from the top of Ladder Hill.
The celebrations were organised by New Horizons.
