MS Arcadia leaving St Helena early

The MS Arcadia dropped anchor at 7am on Monday 16 April in James Bay. There were 1,876 passengers onboard. Her last port of call had been Walvis Bay, Namibia.

Two security officers from onboard the ship came ashore to check the landing area. They decided the sea swell was unsafe for landing passengers. Instead the ship embarked 8 passengers from St Helena and then departed for Tenerife at 11.15am.

The usual preparations had been made by traders and tour operators on the island and there was disappointment expressed by many of them.
