Land Development Control Plan
"we're making enough land available to support the Islands estimated housing demands for future generations of residents"

Extracted from SHG Press Release

Tuesday 20th March the Executive Council approved an important package of the land reforms and will soon be a Saint Helena Government Policy from 1st April.

The Land Development Control Plan will be revised, resulting in being different from the current one and better it in four ways.

  • Permit development rather than restricting it.
  • Improve how the Islands land and infrastructure is used in future.
  • Emphasises importance of the natural and built heritage.
  • Better environmental standards.

Tony Earnshaw said we're making enough land available to support the Islands estimated housing demands for future generations of residents. This will include setting aside between 70 -180 housing plots here for affordable homes. In addition, alternative better value methods of construction will be encouraged. Listening carefully to people's views we've been able to devise a fair and balanced package which is in the best long term interests of the Island as a whole.
